The recipients of the Rookie of the Year Award must be first-year York University students who play in many sports at a high level and show a commitment to the intramural program. The winners show promise of being potential leaders in the intramural program for future years.

Recipients are selected by the SIRC executive in March. The winners are chosen from nominations submitted by college representatives, SIRC members or any individual participant.
