LIONS DOMINATE LAURIER AT HOME, IMPROVE TO 2-2 ON THE SEASON

Saturday afternoon saw the York Lions women's rugby team return home to Alumni Field to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks. York was looking to push to 2-2 to achieve a 500. record on the season, while Laurier was still looking for their first win of the season after starting out 0-3.

The Lions got off to a hot start in the first half, controlling the majority of ball possession and dominating inside Laurier's territory. York finished the half up 8-5, due to a penalty goal kicked by Natashia Start and a try without a successful conversion. York's defence initially held up but conceded a try late to Laurier to close the half.
York picked up where they left off early in the second half, with Erin Preston running in for a try, completed with a conversion by Start. Preston exploded for two more tries throughout the half, with both conversions again completed by Start, to extend the Lions lead. York capped off a dominant half with a late game try by Sami Kenney, which was again converted by Start. Laurier later added two tries of their own, both with conversions, but it was not enough to keep up with York. Start also finished her elite performance with her own try and conversion on top right before the final whistle to seal the win. The Lions walked off with an impressive win over the Golden Hawks, with a final score of 43-19.

Looking Ahead: The Lions look to maintain their momentum as they hit the road next week to face the McMaster Marauders. Kick-off is set for 6:00pm on Saturday, September 28th.
