The York University Lions women's rugby team hosted the Trent Excalibur in their home opener at Alumni Field on Saturday. Both teams were looking to rebound after season opening defeats. 

Both teams made heavy offensive pushes in the first half, but each team's defence held strong for the game's opening fifteen minutes. The Lions opened the scoring in the 17th minute, when Jordyn Anderson took the ball the length of the pitch for the game's first try, giving York a 7-0 lead after the conversion from Natashia Start. Near the end of the first half, York scored their second try of the match courtesy of Mistura Are, and, with that, York entered the break with a 12-0 lead.  

Trent began to battle back in the second half. In the 60th minute, Rianna Rogers scored a try to make the game 12-5. York, however, responded in the 70th minute on a Alanna Mrkobrada try to increase their lead to 17-5. Trent added another try in the final minute to make it 17-10. However, it was too little, too late for the visitors, as York got their first victory of the Spencer Robinson era.

York will look to build on this momentum on September 15th, when they travel to London to face the Western Mustangs at 4:00 pm.
